Of Tainted Heart Synopsis
ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE . . . AND MAGIC.
SLATE
Somehow, we survived.
It was supposed to be over. No more curses. No more magic. Just a calm, little life in Brume.
For the first time ever, I’m ready for calm. So. Damn. Ready.
Just so happens that the girl I love doesn’t like to leave things unfinished.
Fine. So our little crew will assemble the Quatrefoil and bring magic back to the world. We’ve already faced death.
This can’t be worse.
Or can it?
CADENCE
I could have let things be. Maybe I should have let things be.
My crew is alive. Slate is by my side. And life is returning to normal.
Except the university is a giant pile of rubble. Papa is still stuck in a wheelchair. And a girl is dead.
If magic can change all that, I want to try one last time to bring it back.
Hopefully, I won’t regret it.
Of Tainted Heart Review
Of Tainted Heart is the second and final book in the Quatrefoil Chronicles. It starts right near the end of book one. We are brought back into the mystical town of Brume. Cadence, Slate and the rest of the gang are sucked back into the Quartrefoil’s games when the guilt of what failing means for Cadence and her father. Failure is not something that Cadence does and especially when failing comes at since a price…
When Slate takes a break from Brume, to go collect his things from Marseille, Cadence secretly makes a decision that no one was expecting. Returning, Slate is brought into her decision with consequences even he didn’t see coming. The Quartrefoil is not just playing games this time, as they all know, these trials have consequences, not just for them, but for the whole of Brume and the world. Will they succeed in bring magic back into the world this time? Will the events of the first book be reversed? Will Cadence finally see her father for who he is?
Katie and Olivia close the Chronicles in the best way possible. This book is full of twists and turns. It has you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. With magic, curses, traumatic trials, secrets revealed, betrayals, tension, this final book certainly is action packed and The Quartrefoil Chronicles has definitely become one of my favourite duologies.

About Olivia and Katie

Olivia Wildenstein grew up in New York City and earned her bachelor’s in comparative literature from Brown University. After designing jewelry for a few years, Wildenstein traded in her tools for the writing life, which made more sense considering her college degree.
When she’s not sitting at her computer, she’s psychoanalyzing everyone she meets (Yes. Everyone), eavesdropping on conversations to gather material for her next book, and attempting not to forget one of her kids in school.
Katie grew up in Racine, Wisconsin where she acquired an irreversible nasal twang and an addiction for books with a slightly dark edge. She now lives in Geneva, Switzerland with her husband, two daughters, and a very fuzzy cat. She has been an avid reader of YA fiction for years. While she has a penchant for the paranormal, she devours a range of books — along with popcorn and black licorice. She consumes all three in large quantities. Luckily, the books don’t stay on her hips.
